Brandon Sklenar shines as Atlas Corrigan in It Ends With Us, the smash-hit romantic drama adapted from Colleen Hoover’s wildly successful novel of the same name. The 34-year-old actor delivers depth and maintains a strong understanding of characterization in an emotionally-
complex and heavy story about a young woman’s perseverance through an abusive relationship. With a career dating back to 2011, Sklenar can also be seen in Adam McKay’s Vice, and has previously starred in 1923 on Paramount+, the spin-off series of Yellowstone. Today, Brandon Sklenar discusses potential takeaways from It Ends With Us, upcoming roles, and the importance of having a good cry.

What was it like getting to work with Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni on It Ends With Us?

It was a really special, creative experience. Blake is incredibly present in every way you’d dream of a scene partner being. Justin did a really wonderful job at balancing his role as director and actor.

What do you hope audiences take away with them after seeing the film?

It’s my hope that this film stands as a beacon of light for anyone going through a difficult time or struggling to find strength in change.

In emotionally intense projects, like It Ends With Us or 1923, how do you wind down and take care of your mental health after a day on set?

Honestly, the longer I do this the easier it’s becoming to drop in and out when needed and not take things home with me. It’s important to remember the aspect of play. That being said, there’s an emotional component that is essential and sometimes you hit a chord that resonates on a level your brain can’t separate from reality and then sometimes you need a walk and a cry. But by the end of the day, I’m usually able to leave it.

Is there anything you can tell us about Drop, the upcoming Blumhouse picture that you’re set to star in?

I’m very excited for the world to see it. It feels like Hitchcock but also retains total originality.

Who, or what, inspires you?

I think inspiration can come from anything, anyone, any place. Sometimes from places you’d least expect. I had a sandwich yesterday that moved me to tears.

In your opinion, what is the most rewarding part of being an actor?

The most rewarding part of being an actor is being able to contribute to a piece of art that has the possibility of impacting someone in a positive way. That has the possibility of moving them, inspiring them or shifting their perspective.
